Hiking is a splendid way to view the spectacular ecosystems of Joshua Tree National Park. The park's well-manicured trail system includes 12 nature walks, some of them accessible, that span anywhere from a 1/4-mile to 1.5 miles. View desert plants such as Mojave yucca, willows, Cholla cactus, Joshua trees, and an oasis habitat. Joshua Tree National Park also offers more strenuous hiking trails that offer views of the Salton Sea and Eagle Mountains, and pass by desert oases. In all, Joshua Tree National Park offers 35 miles of designated hiking trails.
Joshua Tree National Park Tours.
Joshua Tree National Park offers a variety of ranger-led programs, primarily in the spring and fall. Among the most popular programs is the Keys Ranch Guided Walking Tour. A visit to the Keys Ranch tells the story of the Keys family and their 60 years of homesteading in the Mojave Desert. On the ranch are the Keys' home, a school house, store, workshop, mining equipment, vehicles and artifacts of rugged desert living.Keys Ranch is a National Historic Register site. Tours are a half-mile and last about 90 minutes. In addition to regular guided tours of the ranch, Joshua Tree National Park offers costumed, living history tours that take visitors back to the 1940s when pioneer homesteading was at its peak in the Mojave.

A world-class rock climbing and bouldering destination, Joshua Tree National Park welcomes thousands of recreational climbers every year. Joshua Tree National Park features over 8,000 established climbing routes and hundreds of climbing formations. Be advised that Joshua Tree National Park does not maintain climbing routes.
